Cole and I decided shortly after we got back from our honeymoon that we would try to take our first international “non-rev” trip. We were going to make it a short trip and just go for the weekend – we would fly out Friday night and fly home Sunday morning. I was supposed to leave work early so we could make the flight to Munich. Long story short – I left work later than I was supposed to, got stuck in the infamous Atlanta traffic, and made us miss the flight by just a few minutes. So if you can’t go to Munich (MUC), might as well go to Kansas City (MCI) – it’s the same thing right?

Kansas City actually ended up a lot better than I expected. Friday night we went out to the Power & Light district, an impressive entertainment and dining neighborhood that stretches for nine blocks. We ate dinner at one of the restaurants and then checked out some of the bars. However, the highlight of the night was the entertainment we discovered at the Howl at the Moon. Cole & I love dueling piano bars – hence why our rehearsal dinner had to involve a piano bar, but the entertainment we found that night was actually not a result of the talented piano players, but one very intoxicated girl. The video I will post next says it all (please make sure you wait till the very end before you stop it). I thought the girl was providing some funny memories to remember later – but ended up capturing even more than I anticipated. Hope you enjoy!

What happens at the piano bar, doesn’t always stay at the piano bar

We spent most of Saturday exploring a different area of town, Country Club Plaza, an upscale shopping district that can compete with some of the best shopping malls in the country. We tasted delicious Kansas City BBQ at the famous Fiorella’s Jack Stack and checked out the stores housed in the beautiful architecture of “The Plaza”. Later that afternoon, we headed back to the Power & Light District to watch the UGA game (the bulldawgs beat Auburn 38-0 in case anyone was wondering 🙂 ) and then found a delicious hole in the wall pizza place thanks to the help of Yelp.

Overall, Kansas City surprised me – it had everything you could want in a weekend trip – great food, shopping and entertainment. So if you’re ever looking for something out of the ordinary, don’t forget to consider Kansas City.
